Air Liquide to Invest €250 Million in High-Purity Gas Plant in Germany
Published: 8.13.2025
Air Liquide has announced a €250 million investment to construct a new high-purity industrial gas production facility in Dresden, Germany—one of Europe’s fastest-growing semiconductor manufacturing hubs.

The plant will supply ultra-pure gases essential for advanced semiconductor fabrication, serving major industry players in the region.
Set to begin operations in 2026, the facility will help meet the growing demand for high-performance chips across industries such as automotive, communications, renewable energy, and consumer electronics.
The project aligns with the European Chips Act’s goal to double the EU’s global chip market share to 20% by 2030.
“This investment reaffirms Air Liquide’s commitment to supporting the growth of Europe’s semiconductor industry,” said François Abrial, Member of the Air Liquide Group Executive Committee. “By building this plant in Dresden, we are contributing to a more resilient and competitive supply chain in Europe.”
Industry analysts note that securing local supplies of high-purity gases is a critical step in reducing dependency on imports, particularly as global demand for advanced chips continues to rise and supply chain disruptions remain a concern.
Air Liquide’s expansion comes as major chip manufacturers, including TSMC, GlobalFoundries, and Infineon, ramp up their European operations—further cementing Dresden’s position as a strategic semiconductor hub.
